    What is a surface marker buoy (SMB)?

    An SMB is an inflatable tube you send to the surface to show boats and your boat crew where you are. It is important when you are drifting, surfacing away from the boat, or coming up in boat traffic.

    Do I need a dive flag?

    Dive flags are required in many areas and strongly recommended everywhere. A float with a flag warns boaters that divers are below. It also gives you something to rest on and a place to clip your catch bag.
